Juneteeth Culinary Celebration 2022

About this event

Chef Tarsha Gary of ECOTONE World and Chef Sheri L. Raleigh of Cast Iron Skillet Culinaire, LLC will host an inaugural culinary event on Saturday, June 18th, from 11-2 pm, bit.ly/3MWJpct

This festive event is a Juneteenth Culinary Celebration honoring Black Women: Community Artist Collective, local Chefs, Farmers, Product Makers, and Mixologists. Join us to explore the journey and foodways of ethnically significant ingredients from West Africa to Texas.

The culinary journey will be an edible one savored by cooking and cocktail demonstrations with guest tastings packaged in a brunch-style menu. Enjoy indoor and outdoor Exhibits of Culinary Art, African American Foodways, Visual and Performing Arts. Experience the Outdoor Market Featuring Black Female Entrepreneurs. Registered Guests receive culturally crafted "Swag Bags" with keepsake items, recipes, etc.

The event is ticketed for indoor participation; however, the outdoor market and exhibit will free appeal to the larger community. Proceeds of this event will benefit St. Charles Street Urban Community Garden, Community Kids Cook, and Cast Iron Skillet Culinaire, LLC organizations' educational program funds.

Chef Sheri's Tips

#1

Each Mother Sauce produces two to three secondary sauces and host of derivitive sauces.

#2

The key to developing rich sauces is in mastering the art of making a Roux.

#3

Over-hydrated or thin sauces can be saved by making "slurry"; part cool sauce or liquid plus starch for thickening.
